President's Report

If you work in communications today, chances are your toolbox looks very different than it did even a year ago.
Many of us are experimenting with AI to brainstorm ideas, summarize research, analyze data, draft content or simply save time on routine tasks. New tools seem to appear every week, challenging us to rethink how we research, create and communicate. But while our tools continue to evolve, the responsibility behind our work hasn't changed.
Public relations has always been built on trust. Our audiences still expect accuracy. Our organizations still rely on our judgment. And our profession still depends on transparency, accountability and ethical decision-making.
This month, PRSA released Ethics & Standards Advisory #22, guidance from the PRSA Board of Ethics and Professional Standards, on AI agents in public relations, reinforcing the importance of transparency, accountability and human oversight. It also continues to expand practical resources like its AI Prompting Guide, giving communicators real-world tools to work more efficiently without losing sight of our professional judgment.
On August 6, we’ll host a "What's in Your Toolbox?" roundtable for a chance to learn from one another about the latest platforms, apps and AI tools we're using and the thinking behind them. What helps you work smarter? What saves time? What improves creativity? And perhaps most importantly, what decisions should always remain in human hands?
Technology will continue to change. The principles that define great public relations professionals should not.
One of the greatest benefits of PRSA is the opportunity to learn from one another, and I hope you'll join us on August 6 for what promises to be a thoughtful conversation. Then, join us again in September as we explore the real-world ethical decisions communicators face every day.
Cheers,
Courtney Fogle, APR
